Seaside Wedding Flowers
By The Wedding Gazette

Add exotic flora to your beach-themed wedding with the use of the flowers of South Africa, Hawaii, or the rocky East Coast for oceanic centerpieces and accents.

Remember when choosing your tropical or beachy flowers:

* Tropical flowers and typical ocean flora are generally more expensive than more traditional wedding flowers.
* Get specific information from your florist on transporting and caring for the flowers once they're at your wedding. You certainly don't want all the petals to fall off your centerpieces an hour before the reception because they were too hot or too cold.
* You may want to seek the advice of a florist who specializes in tropical or exotic flowers so they will know the best combinations and presentation ideas for your seaside floral decorations.

Tropical Flowers

Heliconia: This spiky flower with thick foliage flourishes in Hawaii. Perfect for centerpieces or altar arrangements, it's tall stalks of fingery red and yellow blooms are both tropical and exotic looking.

Red Ginger: These dreamy flowers are wonderful additions to tropical bouquets. With bulb-shaped bright red blooms made of fuzzy tendrils, and long waxy stems, use as filler for centerpieces or other arrangements.

Anthurium: Hawaii's most recognizable flower. Each bloom is made of a waxy, brightly colored plate with a long, white pistil shooting out the top. These unusually-shaped flowers make great bouquets, or would look equally as good in centerpieces.

Dendrobium Orchid: Gorgeous, elegant, and available in a variety of colors, these small, round-shaped orchids with four petals are a more subtle way to add tropical beach flavor to your flowers. Dendrobiums make stunning cascade bridal bouquets and hair decorations. They also look beautiful scattered around on tabletops.

Bird of Paradise: This South African flower resembles a colorful bird in flight with its spiky, fan-shaped blooms and thick, waxy foliage. A striking tropical statement, use this flower alone in centerpieces or coupled with anthriums or red ginger for colorful, exotic arrangements.
